Burrows Hulless Oats is the last cultivar that the late Dr. Vern Burrows (1930-2020) released and it was referred to in his breeding work as variety VA0-65. Seed is plump and threshes well, apparently thanks to the incorporation of a heavy geniculate (twisted or bent) awn, and matures quite early. This is also a variety with hairless seeds, as was all of Dr. Burrow's later work. Oats are very irritating to the skin and lungs as the microscopic hairs on the seeds become airborne during threshing. The hairless trait avoids these problems. Thanks to a good seed friend of ours for sharing this variety with us!
