A cantaloupe type melon with unusually green flesh with a light orange/pink hue only on the surface of the flesh. Early maturing and therefore great for our short growing seasons here in Saskatchewan. This variety has been around since about the 1840s but seemed to fall out of favour for some time after its hype died down and commercial growing needs took over. It produces 1 to 2 lb turban-shaped melons with light green, sweet, delicious flesh that has a thin skinned and fleshed bump on the bottom. In our 2022 gardens the mice found the thin skinned bump an easy way to break into fruits and hollow them out of seed and flesh so we had to keep a close eye on when the melons were maturing to harvest before the mice!
