Madi or Coast Tarweed as a whole plant is covered with sticky resin, which prevents moisture loss in its hot dry habitat. It is native to the west coast of the Americas, growing from Alaska to Chile. The plant has a strong scent and has many yellow flowers with darker centres, clustered at the top of the plant. It is an oil seed with its oil comparable to olive oil.
