Early Alberta has its origins in Fruno’s Early Alberta which came from a cross between Golden Bison X Bounty, made by Mr. Fruno in Edmonton in 1941. Dr. R.J. Hilton of the Department of Horticulture at the University of Alberta did a number of years of selection and released the result in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s. It has fairly small sprawling plants, is quite early and produces medium to large smooth red fruits.
