This poppy family member is a sprawling plant to about 1', with much divided grey-green leaves and yellow flowers borne in crowded racemes of up to 30 flowers. It grows best as a winter annual, getting a good start in the fall so it can start blooming early in the spring. It grows widely on the prairies, on the edges of bluffs, fields and roads.
