Ground cherry produces a heavy yield of small yellowish fruits enclosed in papery husks. At maturity, the husks turn brown and the fruits fall from the plant. In the husk, fruits will keep for weeks. They have a citrus-like fruity flavour and are eaten fresh and in pies and preserves. Aunt Molly’s is an older variety from Poland.
